Read it! I Samuel 17
All those gathered here will know that it is not by the sword or spear that the Lord saves; for the battle is the Lord’s, and he will give all of you into our hands.
Think it through
As he says these words, David is looking up at Goliath. Nine foot tall Goliath (I can look at my eight foot-high ceiling to get some perspective on that!). Covered in armor Goliath. Wielding a huge sword Goliath. And next to him, there’s young, ruddy David with his slingshot and five smooth stones.
Goliath measured the situation and despised David, saying, “Am I a dog that you come at me with sticks?” David measured the situation and stated that their inequality would only serve to showcase God’s power—“the whole world will know that there is a God in Israel.”
Where in my life is God using my weakness to showcase His strength? So often I wish for things to be easier or clearer, when that would take away from God’s victory. The battles I fight are more commonplace, of course (raising children, wise spending, furthering my ministry), but God is still present in them.
Live it like you mean it
Where in your life is God using your weaknesses to showcase His strength? Where is your struggle giving Him a clear victory? Call a friend today and tell them how the Lord is using your weakness for His glory.
You’re my “phone call.” I’ll take this opportunity to give all the glory to my Lord: My amazing children are His gift. Our financial security is His gift. My book contract is His gift. It is not by my talent or hard work that the Lord saves; for the battle is the Lord’s, and He has given these things into my hands.
Lift it up
Lord, I bring myself before You in humble thankfulness. Every good thing comes from You. You authored all of these things in my life and it is my joy and privilege to be a good steward of Your blessings. You win battles for me every day. Thank you. Amen.
Tell Me About It
So what was your friend’s reaction when you called? Or would you rather share right here what good things God has done in your life for His glory?
