Organize Your Photos: Vacation Albums

The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full.

John 10:10

Jesus came that we might have life, and have it to the full.  This is His kind of abundance—not stuff, but life!

A lot of wonderfully abundant life is lived on family vacations. To truly live in God’s abundance and enjoy His blessings, I’ve needed to re-frame how I look at vacations:

  • I want to enjoy anticipating a vacation—to embrace the planning and the exciting feelings about the joy to come.
  • I want to enjoy the vacation as it happens—to let my planning unfold and be flexible, to be in the moment, to relax. (I actually wrote an entirely separate post about vacation planning, and then relaxing.)
  • I need to enjoy remembering the vacation—to keep the joyful memories alive, to remember the good times, to tell the stories.  This is where the Vacation Album comes in.

Organize Your Photos: Easter Album

He is not here; he has risen, just as he said. Come and see the place where he lay.

Matthew 28:6

Welcome back to the Organizing Your Photos series—Easter Edition!

If you haven’t seen the earlier posts in this series, you may want to check them out here. The most important thing to know is that I’m encouraging you to enjoy your photos, not spend hours and hours making the perfect album.

Now I’m going to show you an album I took hours and hours to make. 🙂

Organize Your Photos: Christmas Albums

But Mary kept all these things, and pondered them in her heart.

Luke 2:19

Welcome back to the Organizing Your Photos series, Christmas edition!

My goal for these posts is to help you feel like a successful family historian and truly enjoy your photos, without a lot of work. (For more about that, read the first half of the first post here.)

Speaking of work, I know this is the Christmas season. Chance are that you’re not going to start a photo project, no matter how small it is. You have a lot to do right now, and I get that. But now is the time to think about your project, and maybe even take a couple of photos to get ready!

Organize Your Photos: The Interest Album

A person can do nothing better than to eat and drink and find satisfaction in their own toil. This too, I see, is from the hand of God, for without him, who can eat or find enjoyment?

Ecclesiastes 2:24-25

I used to give a talk on taking and organizing photographs. I loved that talk! I truly love being our family’s Keeper of Memories, the Family Historian.

However, the demand for that particular talk is so nearly nonexistent that I stopped offering it. Not everyone loves taking and/or organizing photographs… and times are changing.

The Inside Scoop!

Read it! John 4

“Come, see a man who told me everything I ever did. Could he be the Messiah?”

(vs29)

Think it through

John tells us that the woman at the well was there at noon. No one else was getting water when the day was at its hottest. John might as well have said, “This woman was a social outcast, shunned by her town.” And we find out in verse 18 that Jesus knew exactly why. He knew everything she ever did.

3 Ways to Journal Joyfully

Today’s moms are taking tons of pictures with their phones and digital cameras, which is fantastic—as long as we remember what our pictures are about.  Years from now, we don’t want to look at our pictures and think, Where were we? or worse, How old were the kids in this picture? or worst of all, Is that my oldest or my youngest?

And then there are the intangible things we want to remember but can’t really photograph…like the way my oldest used to say “strawbabies” instead of “strawberries,” or how my preschool-aged daughter’s favorite color was brown(!), or how thankful I am for my youngest’s joyful disposition.  We think we’ll always remember those kinds of things—but what if we don’t?
