Read it! Ruth 4:1-12
Boaz took ten of the elders of the town and said, “Sit here,” and they did so.
Think it through
Boaz was such a fantastic, up-and-up man. Not only does he approach the next man in line for a prize he would like to claim for himself, he does it in the presence of ten witnesses. These men bore witness to the offer, the refusal, the passing of the sandal (another little weird-ism in this story that I love!), and Boaz’s legal redemption of Ruth.
And not only were these men witnesses to Boaz’s dealings, they were able to pass on a blessing to him, a prayer before the God they all loved. The spoke a blessing over Ruth, Boaz, and their future children—a blessing that God honored as his plan for Ruth was fulfilled.
Live it like you mean it
In this information age, we are witnesses to many amazing things. Godly work in our families, neighborhoods, churches, and online. When you see good work being done for God, do you lift up a blessing?
On my Facebook page, I try to share organizing ideas and encouraging words. Sometimes I’ll give an “Organizing You” shout-out to someone who’s doing good work for her family and her God. The attention and sharing is great, but I’m going to try to add a blessing component as well.
Will you join me? Instead of just a “share” or a “like,” will you add a prayer or blessing this week?
Lift it up
Holy Spirit, You have put a burden on my heart to lift up and encourage women. Please help me to lift them up straight to You. When I see something good happening in the name of the Lord, prompt me to speak a prayerful blessing over it. Let the words of my mouth be pleasing to You and uplifting to those who hear them. Amen
Tell Me About It
What would you like to speak a blessing over? Let’s bless others together!
