Read it! Deuteronomy 6
These commandments that I give you today are to be on your hearts.
Impress them on your children. Talk about them
when you sit at home and when you walk along the road,
when you lie down and when you get up.
Think it through
I’m a Pinterest lover.
Though I have some “Organizing” boards on Pinterest, only a few of my boards are ministry-specific. It’s a personal account and my boards reflect my heart. I try to pin only the things I think I’d actually do or things that bring me joy… things that inspire me, and that I hope will inspire others.
One of those things was a “Scripture Smash Book” (you can look at my related Pinterest board here). For a while now, I’ve considered making a scrapbook as a way to share my faith with my kids. I wanted to create something that was simple, but next-level. A book that my five year-old would enjoy, but that challenged my older kids to go deeper in their faiths—beyond what they were learning in Sunday School and Awana.
And so, I scrapped up my “Living the Sweet Life” book, and I’m excited to share it with you in the coming weeks! I want to inspire you to discuss these topics with the children in your life.
And I’d like for you to be challenged and stretched, just as I was while I was creating it.
Each page features scripture and a concept to take further into the Christian walk. Hopefully, it’s also a creative, pretty book, one with something tactile on every page. Here are some examples:
(Disclaimer: In no way am I implying that you should make a book like this, or that if you do, it should be exactly like mine. We all have different gifts and callings. This is just another way to dive deeper into The Word. I’m inviting you to join me for a weekly challenge related to the scriptures I chose for its pages!)
Live it like you mean it
Have you ever tried to explain a faith-related concept to a child and felt yourself stumbling over the words? Unsure exactly what something means, or what you believe about it?
I took on twenty-eight different topics in the pages of my Scripture Scrapbook (don’t worry, I won’t be sharing them all with you—that would be one long series!). I was surprised at how hard it was to express these faith concepts in simple, understandable ways. I was also surprised by how passionately I desire my kids to search for the heart of God in these realities. I don’t want them simply to go to church and be “good kids”; I desperately want them to experience an abundant life with Christ.
I want that sweet life for them, I want it for myself, and I want it for you. Will you go deeper and search for the heart of God with me in the coming weeks?
Lift it up
Jesus, thank You so much for walking alongside me through this life. I want so much to invite others to walk with You as well, to enjoy a sweet, easy, deep fellowship with You. May the meditations I’m sharing with my children bring them closer to You. May they touch the hearts of those reading this blog as well. Please pass Your blessing over these words and thoughts. I love You so, my Savior and Friend. Amen.
