Will You Seek Jesus?

Read it! John 1

“Come,” he replied, “and you will see.”

So they went and saw where he was staying and stayed the day with him.

(vs39)

Think it through

Sometimes I think the Gospel of John is hard to read.

When people first come to know Christ, Christian leaders often recommend that they start their Bible reading with the book of John. And I think, Why? John is hard.

He confuses me a bit, stymies me. Maybe it’s because John is a little poetic and I’m more like Meticulous Matthew or Linear Luke.

So when I got a four-version side-by-side Bible (with the NIV, NLT, NKJV, and The Message right there next to each other), I decided to read John again and pay close attention to the different translations. I always want to grow closer to Jesus, and this seemed the perfect way to really see him through the eyes of John!

I read nice and slowly, not chapter by chapter but section by section, paying attention to the different nuances and word choices. I sought to better understand John, the “disciple whom Jesus loved,” and his account of my Savior.

I sought a new perspective.

Live it like you mean it

Do you ever find scriptures confusing or hard to understand? (Can anyone say “no” to that question?) What do you do to seek clarity? Have you ever studied different versions of the Bible?

I’d like to challenge you to join me for this series in John! I’ve learned so much as I’ve prepared for these first few posts, and I can’t wait for God to reveal more!

Lift it up

Jesus, I seek to know more about You, always. I’d love to discern and adopt Your perspective on life, faith, choices… everything. Please grant me clarity and wisdom as I seek Your heart in the Gospel of John. I love You so. Amen.
