Therefore, as you have received Christ Jesus the Lord, walk in Him, rooted and built up in Him and established in the faith, just as you were taught, overflowing with gratitude.
I was reading through the New Testament letters recently, and it struck me that the prayers Paul (and Peter and John) pray for the newly founded churches would also be amazing things to pray over kids growing in faith.
So I went back and pulled out many of the phrases and sentences that spoke blessings over the recipients of the letters, anything thing that started “I pray that…” or “May you…” or “May God…”
Then, to make them prayers over my kids, I substituted “You” for references to God and “them” for references to the growing churches.
Here’s a sampling from what I compiled…
- May they be rooted and built up in You and established in the faith, just as they were taught, overflowing with gratitude.
- I pray that You would give them a spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of You.
- May You cause them to overflow with love for one another and for everyone. May You make their hearts blameless in holiness before You at the coming of Jesus.
Aren’t those lovely?
I’ve been praying one or two a day over my kids, repeating them to get them firmly planted in my heart.
Then I wondered if you might like them, too. They would be perfect to pray over your kids, your grandkids, your spouse, your small group members… anyone you know who is growing in faith. Even yourself!
So, here’s a printable—an organized list of 16 New Testament Prayers to pray over your kids:
(Note: The verses were taken from the HCSB translation, which is like a cross between the NIV and NLT.)
May God bless you as you raise your children to know Him! May He softly blow the spiritual clutter of worry right out of your heart as you lift up your children to Him.
