Read it! Matthew 28
Therefore go and make disciples of all nations,
baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.
Think it through
Jesus is the Key to Everything.
He is our happiness and our security. He is our day-to-day life and our future in Heaven. He is our sweet life.
One recent Sunday in church, we watched on the video screen as a new sister in Christ told her redemption story and was baptized into the faith. We all clapped, some of us wiping away a tear. Then our pastor started his sermon with something to this effect:
“We hear stories like that one and think, ‘That’s so nice, so touching,’ and we’re thankful. But if a man next to me on stage had a heart attack and died right here, and then an EMT ran out with the paddles and shocked his heart and brought him back to life, we’d all be like, ‘WHOA! I can’t believe I just witnessed that!! That man was dead and now he’s alive!’ Here’s the truth: the woman we just saw on that screen was dead, and now because of Jesus Christ she’s alive. Friends, people all around us are dead and they need to find life in Christ.”
Hearing that gave me a completely new perspective on witnessing to people around me. People are living with the same struggles and heartaches that I feel at times—and most have much, much more to carry than I—and they’re trying to do it without Jesus. How can they bear it?
Do you ever look around and feel burdened for the people surrounding you? So desperate for them to find the Truth? Then you’ve felt Holy Urgency.
Live it like you mean it
I ended the scripture scrapbook just as Christ ended His time with us. Christ’s last words to us were essentially, “Go and Tell.”
“Don’t be shy now! Go. Tell. We know the amazing truth and we have to share it! We have to tell people about our Jesus! He is the key to happiness, and much more: the key to everything. You don’t have to worry about their reaction—that’s in God’s hands. Our job is to bless them with the truth.”
Not only are we bursting with Good News to tell, our hearts burn with a sense of emergency. Although we don’t know the future, we know one thing for sure: Jesus is coming.
“Plan on it: We may not know the hour… we may not know the day… but we know Jesus is coming back! Be ready. Be excited! And until He comes, do your work for Him with Holy Urgency. Alleluia, alleluia, alleluia. Come, Lord Jesus.”
Who has the Holy Spirit burdened your heart for? Who around you is dead and needs Jesus to bring life?
This week’s challenge is simple: Listen for the Holy’s Spirit’s prompting and talk to that person. Pray for an opening. Tell them how much you love them. Share Christ’s love with passion, with Holy Urgency.
Lift it up
Jesus, you are the Way, the Truth, and the Life. Help my smoldering heart to be on fire for You! Open my eyes that I may see the lost people around me; give me the strength and the words to reach out to them. Open their ears and their minds for the Truth of You. Give me more and more chances to shine for You like a city on a hill. May my heart be burdened for those around me until You come back. Alleluia, alleluia, alleluia. Come, Lord Jesus. Amen.
