Organize Your Photos: Event Albums

Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of the heavenly lights, who does not change like shifting shadows.

James 1:17

I thought I’d share one more Organize Your Photos post. Remember, organizing your photos doesn’t have to be a huge, complicated project.  You can choose to complete a fun little project in your own style. The goal here is to enjoy your photos with your family… and nothing says “joy” like remembering an event that celebrated them!

Like Vacation Albums, Event Albums have the simplicity of being about one specific thing.  No need to comb through a bunch of old photos—these are all saved in one place on your phone, computer, camera card, or social media feed.

Event Albums are also easy to make simple and pretty, because you can purchase a small, classic photo album that’s designed just for the event:

  • A nature-themed album for an outdoor party
  • A birthday album for a birthday party
  • A love-themed album for a wedding or anniversary party
  • A graduation or school-themed album for a graduation party
  • A faith-themed album for a religious event

Print out the pictures, place them in the album, journal as much or as little as you’d like, and your done!

If you’re more ambitious, try a more detailed scrapbook.  Again, it’s easy to pick up some theme-related stickers or other matching embellishments.  You even use some of the ideas in the Photos of Belongings post to incorporate larger items like certificates, gifts, and other mementos from the big day.  You can even make an Event Album as a present for someone else—what a gift of love that would be!

The best thing about an event album is that it’s so easy to give glory to God within the album.  You can include a scripture or add a faith-filled element (like faith-related stickers). Every event worth celebrating is a gift from God, and He deserves the glory!

Many years ago, I made a special Event Album for my daughter Karly’s infant baptism (we attended a Lutheran church at the time).  I was given a small 8×8 album as a gift when she was born, and it coordinated so well with the pictures that it seemed meant to be!

I included photos of Karly in her beautiful gown, as well as pictures of our time at the church and the luncheon.

I also included her baptism certificate (shrunken) and the program (full size).

On the inside of the back cover, I attached the cross-stitched cloth the pastor used to wipe her head. (It even has a little wax on it from the candles we were holding.)

I asked my friends and family members for their thoughts on the day and included their quotes…

…and some scripture verses that felt appropriate to the day.

I used an empty page protector in the back to hold the cards she received, with many special written prayers and expressions of love.

With an album theme like this, it’s easy to make it all about Jesus!  But any album can hold scripture or faith-related images to remind the readers that our joy is from and about Jesus our Lord.

Take the Challenge:

Are possible event albums springing to mind?  Birthday parties, anniversaries, graduations, weddings, or other celebrations?

I’d recommend that you start with a recent one.  Consider all of the things you’d like to include, like:

  • the best photos
  • journaling about what happened
  • quotes from others
  • shrunken copies or photos of memorabilia.
  • reminders of faith like scriptures or symbols

This is the perfect small project to enjoy planning, executing, and enjoying this summer.  You can even get your kids involved to help keep them entertained!

Remember to keep it simple, keep it fun, and let it glorify the Lord!
