“Give, and it will be given to you. Good measure, pressed down, shaken together, running over, will be put into your lap. For with the measure you use it will be measured back to you.”
Have you ever dropped the ball on a friendship? A friend asks to spend time with you, but you forget to return their email. Their texts go unanswered. Soon they stop reaching out to you, and then it feels almost embarrassing to reach out to them… so you don’t. The relationship is lost.
Blessedly, we can never lose our most important relationship. It’s never to late to reach out to God. His mercies are new every morning. He’s there waiting to spend time with us as we study His Word. He’s ready to enjoy our company as we communicate through prayer and listen through meditation. When we let the relationship weaken, He is still strong.
If we’re going to set one goal this New Year, let’s resolve to pour into our relationship with Our Father. When we give our time and energy to Him, He will pour back into us a love that is pressed down, shaken together, and running over!
(By the way, I know that the word “resolution” is getting a lot of backlash right now in time-management and organizational circles. People are more into setting clear, measurable goals, and that’s great… but sometimes, you are resolving to do something—and that’s not a bad thing!)
Take the Challenge:
What goal can you set to strengthen your relationship with God this year? Perhaps scheduling a daily time with God on your calendar, or setting your alarm earlier, or choosing a Bible reading plan… spend time in prayer asking God to inspire you with just the right way.
Set the goal; make the resolution. Strengthen your relationship now so you’ll be ready for all He has in store.
2016 is going to be a good, good year.
