It’s been raining in Ohio for weeks. If you live here, you know. If you don’t, well, I’ll just say that I’m not sure if there was more than one day in June that it didn’t rain and July has been almost as bad.
Being an “inside girl,” I really don’t mind rain…but things are getting pretty soggy, even for me. And my fellow Ohioans have been getting a little fussy about it. My positive rejoinder, “Well, at least we’re really using our bowling pass!” is starting to wear thin.
Last week there was a day with absolutely no chance of rain in the forecast. I’d been avoiding errands, so I hopped in my car and headed straight to Michaels (my favorite store—crafts!). I pulled into a parking spot, gathered up my coupons, and then spotted the umbrella that had taken up permanent residency in my purse. As I happily removed it, I prayed, “Thank you, God, for this beautiful sunny day!”
Immediately my heart swelled with a larger-than-life word, a sudden understanding:
Our complaints have turned to thankfulness,
and that is a victory for Heaven!
At that moment, I looked through my windshield at the car across from me in the parking lot. Inside the car were two teenage girls, absolutely howling with laughter. They were laughing so hard they looked like they could hardly breathe. I couldn’t help but laugh a little, too. (With them? No, at them. They were so cute.)
Once again, I thought, Victory!! Their joy-filled friendship and laughter—that’s a victory for Heaven.
As I entered the store, I saw Heaven’s victories everywhere:
A couple holding hands.
A momma picking out craft supplies with her kids.
An opening for me to give a sincere compliment to the cashier…
Her smile was a victory in itself.
Even when the world is getting us down, we know that Christ has overcome the world. He has claimed His victory over this world! Victory!
Lies to Fight: Everything’s going wrong. This is terrible. Nothing’s going my way. The world is against me.
Christ is on the throne! Victory is ours—because Victory is His.
We demolish arguments and every pretension that sets itself up against the knowledge of God, and we take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ.
2 Corinthians 10:5
Where can you see His Victory today?
